2016 Juniper Cornerstone Wilyabrup Cabernet Sauvignon Margaret River – This is a single vineyard wine from the 43-year old original plantings in Wilyabrup, Margaret River. Unirrigated to this day, the vineyard is sustainably farmed following organic practices. All fruit was hand-picked.2016 was a superb Cabernet year in Margaret River because of the warm even conditions that suit the variety. A small rainfall event in January helped arrest rising sugar concentrations allowing tannin and flavour development to catch up and reach perfect equilibrium.A blend of 86.5% Cabernet Sauvignon (for structure and flavour), 4.5% Cabernet Franc (for perfume and smoothness), 4.5% Malbec (colour and richness) and 4.5% Merlot (body and softness), which is carefully hand-picked, then sorted for optimum quality.The wine has a brilliant deep garnet colour with purple hues. A complex and concentrated nose is suggestive of blue fruits, dark chocolate, vanilla and a touch of cedar. The palate is an example of power with finesse showing concentrated fruit flavours, integrated oak and seamless tannins.
