Description Chayote is native to the tropics and is very commonly found in the South American countries like Guatemala. This is also a commonly found fruit in Mexico. The fruits are boiled, baked, or sautéed as a vegetable and taste similarly to cooked cucumber or zucchini. Chayote can be eaten raw, but a sap found in its skin can cause skin irritation to many people.
